Grinding, including rough grinding and fine grinding, can improve the dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and wear resistance of the motor shaft.

For example, in the drive system of electric vehicles, splines or flat keys are often used to rigidly mesh with the gears of the reduction box, and flanges are used in hub motors to directly integrate the motor shaft and the hub.
